AUSTRALIA'S LEADING SUPPLIER OF CORPORATE & SPECIAL EVENT ENTERTAINMENT MC's / HOSTS & SPEAKERS Television & Media Personalities
ITA BUTTROSE Ita Buttrose is an Australian media legend and a respected opinion leader who has twice been voted Australia’s most admired woman. She began her distinguished career as a copygirl on The Australian Women’s Weekly when she was 15; by 21 she was the magazine’s Social Editor and by 33 had become the Weekly’s Editor, its youngest ever – a distinction she still holds today. Under her editorship the Weekly broke through the one million copies sold barrier for the first time (it was then a weekly and not a monthly) setting new publishing records in this country and making the Weekly, per capita of population, the highest circulating magazine in the world. Ita guided the Weekly through times of change not only editorially but also through her considerable management skills having become one of the first women directors of Australian Consolidated Press (ACP) the owners of the Weekly. She was later appointed Publisher of ACP’s Women’s Division controlling a number of magazines including Cleo, the ground-breaking magazine that she created at the request of Kerry Packer and his father, Sir Frank Packer. Rupert Murdoch recognised Ita’s special skills by appointing her Editor-in-Chief of his Sydney Daily & Sunday Telegraphs – making her the first women to ever edit a major metropolitan newspaper in Australia – and inviting her to join the board of News Ltd. Australia, the first Australian woman to become a director of this world-wide media group. Ita branched out on her own to set up Capricorn Publishing and later The Good Life Publishing Company both of which published magazines that she created including ITA Magazine and in 2005, bark! a lifestyle magazine for dog owners and lovers. Under her guidance, Capricorn Publishing created the first TaxPack for the Australian Tax Office. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a founding member of Chief Executive Women. Apart from her magazine, newspaper and management skills, Ita is equally at home in television and radio. She has hosted prime time radio shows for Sydney’s 2GB, 2UE and 2KY; hosted Our World on Channel 9 as well as numerous fashion, media, housing and design awards programs for the ABC and all commercial channels. She covered the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles for the TEN Network. She is also a skilled advertising presenter. Ita is currently Editor-at-Large for OK! Magazine; appears each week on Channel Seven’s Sunrise with hosts Melissa Doyle and David Koch as a social commentator and is a regular panellist on Foxtel’s Beauty & the Beast. She is Chair of the Minister’s (Federal) Excellence in Aged Care Awards and patron of Advocates for Survivors of Child Abuse (ASCA) and the Macular Degeneration Foundation of Australia. Ita gives generously of her time to charitable causes and is knowledgeable about the challenges facing the not-for-profit sector. She has served as president of Arthritis Australia; chaired the National Breast Cancer Advisory Network, the National Advisory Committee on AIDS (NACAIDS) and the AIDS Trust; has been a director of the Prostate Cancer Foundation; the Sydney Symphony Council, Adelaide Arts Festival and the Sydney Festival, She has influenced the careers of many of Australia’s journalists and writers and currently acts as mentor to many editors and would-be editors. She is a prolific author and her recent autobiography, A Passionate Life, was a best-seller. Her eighth book Get In Shape, a motivational book on health and fitness, will be published by Penguin in October this year. Ita has been honoured with a number of awards. She was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for her services to the community in medical education and health care and received an OBE for her services to journalism. She was awarded the Centenary Medal for service to Australian society in business leadership in 2003. Ita Buttrose is unique. An accomplished communicator with a wealth of experience across a broad range of industry sectors, she has worked behind the scenes and in the public eye for major corporates, small business, governments and charity. When she speaks she does so with on-the-job knowledge and experience to deliver a speech that informs, entertains and inspires her audience. Her lively wit is a joy and there is never a dull moment at question time. Not surprisingly she is a much in-demand multi-media performer. She is an entertaining speaker, an accomplished facilitator and a superb MC. She is also a proud mother of Kate and Ben and knows all about the challenges of combining a career with raising children.
