KENANINUI POLYNESIAN DANCE TROUPE BASED: Gold Coast, Australia The Kenaninui Polynesian Dance Troupe was originally conceived on the Gold Coast, Australia, in 1986 with the opening of the Pacific Lagoon Polynesian Restaurant opposite Movie World on the Gold Coast. The group moved to perform at various conferences, special events and charities from the Sunshine Coast to Coffs Harbour. In 1998 the group was offered the resident show, performing every Saturday night to holiday guests at the Mercure Resort, Surfers Paradise.
The show consisting
of a journey through the Polynesian Islands; Tahiti, Hawaii, Samoa, New
Zealand and the Cook Islands, displaying vibrant beats and soothing
melodies of the Polynesian Action Dances as they entertain in their
array of colourful Island costumes.
The group is
choreographed and musically directed by Michael and Pareana Mangakahia
who formed Polynesian dance groups for all the island resorts during
their stay in the Whitsunday's.
With accompanying
musicians the performers are backed with lived drumming, guitar, ukulele
and vocal harmonies.
