AUSTRALIAN MODELS & MC's

TARA MOSS
BASED: Melbourne, Australia
Tara Moss is the
unique combination of top fashion model, businesswoman and best-selling
author. As a "Jill-Of-All-Trades", Tara is known as much for her
award-winning talent as a writer and her quick wit as a public speaker and
television personality, as she is known for her striking appearance.
Tara was born in Victoria, BC, Canada, and at fourteen years of age and
already six feet tall, Tara began working as an international fashion
model, and she has travelled the far reaches of the world for over a
decade, living in New York and all over Europe, catwalking for the top
designers and gracing the covers of over thirty magazines as well as
making a number of acting appearances in film and television. (Including
years as the face of Nivea hair care, a job that once required her to
speak Turkish for the cameras!)
In 1997 Tara earned a Diploma from the Australian College of Journalism,
and her writing has appeared in the nation's top publications, including
ELLE, Australian Style, The Australian Women's Weekly, Woman's Day, New
Idea, NW, The Daily Telegraph, and The Sun Herald among others, and a year
long true-crime column called "Noir" in Australian Style magazine, which
chronicled her hands on research into forensic psychology, criminal
investigation, ballistics, pistol shooting, surveillance and more.
Tara has interviewed subjects as varied as psychopath expert Dr Robert
Hare PhD, fashion historian Dr. Valerie Steele PhD and fellow supermodel
Amber Valletta. Her writing research has included interviewing world
experts on criminal psychology and investigation, and has seen her hang
out in morgues and squad cars, shoot pistols, get polygraph tested,
fingerprinted, given an MRI brain scan, conduct surveillance with a
private eye, practice on the Firearms Training Simulator with the LAPD,
tour the Quantico FBI Academy and headquarters, the LAPD and Police
Academy and attend numerous conferences on polygraph, forensic
psychophysiology, criminal profiling, psychopathy and more.
Tara's first novel, the gripping psychological thriller, Fetish, published
by HarperCollins, hit the bestseller lists and was nominated for the Ned
Kelly Award for best first novel. She designed her own artwork for the
cover of Fetish, and narrated the unabridged audio book version for
Bolinda Audio Publishing. Tara has also optioned the feature film rights.
Her second novel Split, the sequel to Fetish, was released in Australia in
March 2002 and both novels are scheduled for release in North America.
Tara's short stories Psycho Magnet and Know Your ABC’s have won multiple
awards, been published across Australia and have been incorporated into
the creative writing programs of schools in Australia and New Zealand.
Tara is a regular on Australian television, she has hosted the GNW Debate
'That Fashion Is a Joke' and a segment of The Great Outdoors as a guest
presenter, as well as being a panellist on Beauty and The Beast, Geoffrey
Robertson's Hypotheticals and Good News Week, and appearing on Escape With
ET, Good Morning Australia, Entertainment Tonight, Getaway, and The Big
Schmooze among other programs. She also hosted a segment of the 2000
Olympics for Canadian television, and has appeared as a guest on
international programs such as Scully - The World Show.
Tara's many speaking engagements have included being the Master of
Ceremonies for the Moet and Chandon Fashions on the Field, the launch of
the Brett Lee fashion label, the Vanity Fair Intimates workshop at
Melbourne Fashion Week and co-host of the Miss Italia Finals, the launch
of the Versace Trunk Collection, and the Australian Couture Collections
for the past two years running. She has also been a speaker at the
Melbourne Writers' Festival, the Popular Writing Festival and the
Sommerset Festival of Literature, and delivered speeches on positive body
image and women's issues to schools in Canada and Australia.
Tara is a dedicated patron of The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind
Children, and is actively involved in fundraising events for numerous
charities including the Variety Club, the Cancer Council, the Breast
Cancer Foundation, the Heart Research Institute, The Eating Disorders
Support Network and more. Tara’s on-line business donates 20% of profits
to charity.
She does regular speaking engagements, television appearances, radio
interviews and freelance writing, in addition to her novel writing and
research. She loves travel and a good debate, and the opportunities
afforded by her varied areas of work and study.
Tara became a resident of Australia in 1996, and she currently resides in
Melbourne as a dual Canadian/Australian citizen. She travels to Canada
twice a year to visit family and friends.
